The story of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood is one of the most famous from the Bible. God saw how great wickedness had become and decided to wipe mankind from the face of the earth. However, one righteous man among all the people of that time, Noah, found favor in God’s eyes.  Today also when wickedness increase in the world, God warning with Tsunami,  Hurricane etc. But people seek God only when that occurs, and after that forget the Lord.  Remember that God see everything, knows everything and he will punish and destroy everything if we do not change.

Read the full story below to know how God saved his people and how destroyed all the wicked.

Genesis 6

Wickedness in the World

When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then theLord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Noah and the Flood

This is the account of Noah and his family.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

Genesis 7

The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.”

And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.

Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. Pairs of clean and uncleananimals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.

17 For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits. 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.

24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

Genesis 8

But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.

After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. 10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. 12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.

13 By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. 14 By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.

15 Then God said to Noah, 16 “Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 17 Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground—so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it.”

18 So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives. 19 All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds—everything that moves on land—came out of the ark, one kind after another.

20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though[a] every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

“But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

“Whoever sheds human blood,
    by humans shall their blood be shed;
for in the image of God
    has God made mankind.

As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

Nothing will harm you

  1. If a person pray will he get strike back?
  2. Does downfall attack a prayerful person?
  3. Will obstacles happen, if do God’s work for others?
  4. Will Satan trouble if someone do intercession?
  5. Will we get disease, if pray for sick?
  6. Does Divination, evil omens, Witchcraft etc attack a child of God?

Today many people have the sufferings of unwanted fear. Through the word of God
he assured his strong protection to each and every child of God.

Then I will encamp at my house as a guard,
so that no one shall march to and fro;
no oppressor shall again overrun them,
for now I have seen with my own eyes.(Zechariah 9:8)
Because the Lord your God travels along with your camp, to save you and to hand over your enemies to you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.(Deuteronomy 23:14)
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.(Psalm 34:7)

I was suffering with this unwanted fear for the last two years. Attended retreats and received a few booklet from there. Part of this post is translated from the Book written in Malayalam by Fr. Xavier Khan Vattayil, Sehion Retreat Centre, Attappady, Kerala, India. This is only a part of that book. Kindly pray for him.
You are welcome to read the below lines to know more about the protection assurance promised by God.

Once heard a sad story of a full time Evangelist.
He is a person staying in middle of Kerala state, India, who is doing God’s work for 14 years. He is a very God fearing person who pray daily and attend church activities regularly. With counselling and proper guidance he diverted many people from sinful activities to God. He is spreading the word of God in many ways like visiting houses, distributing christian booklets and magazines in village and hill areas. He give a good share of his income for the work of God. He is sharing the sorrows and problems of the poor.

But, there is some obstacles and problems in his family life. Problems in Marriage of daughters. Son is weak and always on bed. Diseases always disturbing in family. Financial problem, wife is not well. Many times family members are unable to pray together. Like this problems are disturbing his family for 12 years.

Some of his friends prayed for these problems and said that they have vision that someone have done strong binding on his family through witchcraft.

At last, without any other choice, he agreed to these words and said that, “it is true that I am a child of God for many years, but I also have this kind of doubt in my mind”.

What is the truth behind this? How should we understand this situation?

This child of God is a person with a pure heart. He loves Jesus as his life. He does everything regularly like confession, attending holy mass, prayers, bible reading, helping and loving others etc. By all means he is devoted his life to God. Is it possible that a person like him can get strike back for his prayerful life? Will witchcraft, Divination, Evil Omens or any such Demonic Powers can attack him?

Never. A person who is called by God to do God’s work should not have this kind of thought in his mind. He should not suspect God.

Divination, evil omens, Witchcraft etc are not new. These things are mentioned in the Holy Bible which is written thousands of years back. For the people of Israel guided to the promised land through Prophet Moses, the Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth.

There is no divination against Jacob,
no evil omens against Israel.
It will now be said of Jacob
and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’(Numbers 23:23)

What is the reason for this? Based on light of the word of God, how can we keep this assurance in mind?

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.(1 John 4:4)

Throughout the New Testament, Jesus Christ revealed that witchcraft or any such demonic powers have no value against the world of God and a child of God have many powers over evil spirit.

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.(Luke 10:19)

Not only this, when a child of God blessed with Holy Spirit raise his hands in the name of Jesus and speak the word of God, what is happening to Satan ?

Jesus told to his disciples:

He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.(Luke 10:18)

A child of God is so powerful to destroy all walls of Satan. He has the certificate of power to destroy all evil spirit under his feet. Not only that, Jesus has given this certificate of power through a promise to child of God. “Nothing will harm you“. And he assured this promise with testimony and agreement.

Jesus given the power to his disciples like this.

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12)

Jesus has not only given this kind of power to us, but also sent a strong person with us, ever helping Holy Spirit who guide, lead and always with us.

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.(John 14:18)

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

After reading the above, a question naturally arise in mind. If the above are true, then why a child of God has this downfall? Why unexpected problems, sorrows, diseases coming by the side of God’s work? The simple answer is that it is the guidance of the good Lord. These are not to harm, but to purify only.

What are the things that a person who called by God to do God’s work must keep in mind. Read here

Literate for a Day – Love of Jesus

Jesus

Sacred Heart Church, Chethipuzha, Changanacherry, Kerala, India.

In the church little girl started crying for something. Mother tried to stop her cry, but she cried more loudly. At last mother pointed her hand to this statue of Jesus and told to the child in a calm voice ” Look at Jesus, he heard your cry and calling you, he wants hug you, he is loving you a lot”. Little child didn’t understand what the mother said, but looking at the statue of Jesus with raised hands, the child stopped crying and started smiling. Mother’s hand and calm voice with love communicated the child correctly and the child stopped crying.  Sacred Heart Church, Chethipuzha

This is the love of Jesus, he make happy anyone who look at him.

This is only a story written about the Daily Prompt  Literate for a Day “Someone or something you can’t communicate with through writing (a baby, a pet, an object) can understand every single word you write today, for one day only. What do you tell them?”

By Heart – 100 year old super hit song – Dukhathinte Paanapatram

“You’re asked to recite a poem (or song lyrics) from memory — what’s the first one that comes to mind? Does it have a special meaning, or is there another reason it has stayed, intact, in your mind?”. When I saw this Daily Prompt – By Heart, Dukhathinte Paanapatram song came in my mind, because I love this song very much and sing also. I humbly request  you to listen the song and find yourself the special meaning and reason why it stayed, intact, in my mind. I hope it may stay, intact, in your mind too.

Listen to this heart touching 100 year old, still super hit Malayalam Christian Devotional song sung by Dr. K. J. Yesudas, one of the top singer in India.

This beautiful heart touching song was written by Sadhu Kochukunju Upadeshi. He was one of the revival leaders who revitalized the spiritual life of the church members. He was a Voluntary Evangelist who spent his whole life for the proclamation of the Gospel to the people of South India and Sri Lanka. According to him the Bible is not a book to be read but an instruction book which should be followed in day to day life.

Kochukunju wanted all his three children to follow the Lord. He wanted his first son Varghesekutty to be a full time celibate evangelist and his second son Samuelkutty to be an agriculturist to look after his property and his daughter Mariamma, to be a lady evangelist. But unfortunately his second son Samuel died at the age of nine. The death of his son was a big loss in his life which inspired him to write the immortal hymn Dukhathinte Panapatram. Read Life History to know more about him.

This song is in Malayalam language of Kerala State, India.  Malayalam lyrics are written in English alphabets for non-speaking Malayalam people to read. English meaning of the lyrics are written in italic red color.

9. Prakaarathil ente munpil, Yeshuvine kanunnu njan
Yaagapeedam avan athre, ennumente Rakshayavan..

I see the resemblance of Lord Jesus before me
in the altar; he is always my refuge.

10. Dhinam thorum puthukkunna, shakthiyennil pakaruvan
Svacha jalam vachittulla pichala thottiyundu..

To impart on me the strength which is renewed everyday
There’s the brass bucket (chalice?) containing the water of life

11. Lokathe njan orkkunnilla, kashtanashtam orkkunnilla
Eppolente Karthavine, onnu kaanamenneyullu.

I am heeding neither the world nor my suffering and losses
All that I desire is to witness my Lord
