Job is Tested – Great Stories of the Holy Bible

 Job 1

Job and His Family

Job is afflicted by adversity and his friends comment on his suffering. (Job): Slide 2
1 There was once a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil. 2 There were born to him seven sons and three daughters. 3 He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred donkeys, and very many servants; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east. 4 His sons used to go and hold feasts in one another’s houses in turn; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 And when the feast days had run their course, Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” This is what Job always did.

Attack on Job’s Character

6 One day the heavenly beings came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 8 The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil.” 9 Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have you not put a fence around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” 12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

Job Loses Property and Children

Job is afflicted by adversity and his friends comment on his suffering. (Job): Slide 4

13 One day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in the eldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were feeding beside them, 15 and the Sabeans fell on them and carried them off, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; I alone have escaped to tell you.” 16 While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three columns, made a raid on the camels and carried them off, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18 While he was still speaking, another came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind came across the desert, struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; I alone have escaped to tell you.”

20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrongdoing.

What is Tithe? Why Tithe?

What is Tithe?

The tenth part of agricultural produce or personal income set apart as an offering to God or for works of mercy, or the same amount regarded as an obligation or tax for the support of the church, priesthood, or the like.

In our life we see many families  struggling with financial problems, agricultural loss, business loss etc.  In the Bible we do not see a God who wish to see struggling and sorrowful people. We can see this in below Bible verses:-

12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree,
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God. (Psalms 92:12-13)

Here we meet a God who wish to see “the righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”

Again  in Psalms 35:27

Let those who desire my vindication
shout for joy and be glad,
and say evermore,
“Great is the Lord,
who delights in the welfare of his servant.”

God is the Lord who delights in the welfare of his people.

Below is the Bible verses which prove God’s mind about a child of God.

The Lord will make you the head, and not the tail; you shall be only at the top, and not at the bottom—if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today, by diligently observing them, (Deuteronomy 28:13)

What we have to understand from this? God wish that his children should have always upgrade and never decadence.

I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be their slaves no more; I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect. (Leviticus 26:13)

God rejoice in the goodness and freedom.

But why this is not happening in many families. They work hard from morning to evening, sometimes overtime duty also. But  no saving at all. With cleverness and hard work they try to earn as much as they can. But everything goes out from hand. What is the reason for this?

We read in Job 13:28 that people who do  not know God’s ways :-

One wastes away like a rotten thing,
like a garment that is moth-eaten. (Job 13:28)

1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives sleep to his beloved. (Psalms 127:1-2)

For success in life it is very important to become the affectionate of God. Bible introducing us a God who give to his people even while they are asleep. If you like to become an affectionate of God, then you must follow Word of God carefully.

People have their own way for financial upgrade, peace in family, spiritual leading. But many times these ways end in darkness, disappointment and sorrow. But God has his own way to uplift his people. That lead to rejoice, peace and blessings of God.

31 and in the wilderness, where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as one carries a child, all the way that you traveled until you reached this place. 32 But in spite of this, you have no trust in the Lord your God, 33 who goes before you on the way to seek out a place for you to camp, in fire by night, and in the cloud by day, to show you the route you should take.” (Deuteronomy 1:31-33)

People do not think about a God of this kind.

Daily Prompt – Good things come to those who wait

“Good things come to those who wait.” Do you agree? How long is it reasonable to wait for something you really want?

God has his own plan and time for everything. Some people think and say that “I pray daily, attend Holy Mass daily, give my share to church and poor, praying as advised by the priest, but still my disease is not healing, my children not studying well, I am not getting a home to stay:. But they should understand that God hearing all your prayers, he knows your intentions very well, he knows about the pain and suffering due to your disease. But he has his own time, he wants you to wait for the time. If you wait for his time, you will get the blessings and result of your prayer.

If you didn’t pass in one exam, don’t get disappointed, wait and do again, you will surely pass. If you didn’t pass the interview for a job, wait for next chance, may be a better job is awaiting for you.

Good things always come to those who wait. Instead of waiting, if you take decisions in a hurry, there is a chance for you to lose the better one.
