15 As for mortals, their days are like grass;
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
    and its place knows it no more.

Duty towards neighbour

Holy Bible

What is our duty towards God, and towards our neighbour?
We all have neighbours near our home or work. Are we on good terms with them? Are we helping them in their need?
Being on good terms with neighbour has numerous benefits. Being on bad terms with neighbour can make life frustrating, day after day.

Think about the below questions and try to change your life as per the will of God.

Do you show your neighbours a warm welcome and extend a helping hand ?
Are you kind to your neighbours and respect them ?
If they need to borrow something from you,  do you provide them with it when you can ?
If they ask you for help do you help them ?
Do you ignore helping them, especially elderly or disabled neighbour ?
Do you try to ease their pain when they fall into sadness ?
Do you make fun of the way they live, talk, or dress ?

The Bible contains uplifting and encouraging scriptures for any situation you may face in life, and will guide you in your walk with Christ. Below are selected Bible verses that will offer biblically based guidance about duties toward neighbour.

28    Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.

29   Do not plan harm against your neighbor who lives trustingly beside you.

30  Do not quarrel with anyone without cause, when no harm has been done to you. (Proverbs 3 Verses 28-30)

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:18)

For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5:14)

You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (James 2:8)

Most of these qualities of a good wife are already inbuilt in a woman and the rest can be developed.

Never be rude to husband, his family and friends. Be warm, kind, positive, understanding and friendly. Welcome husband with a smile when he comes home instead of a sour face. A good wife honors her hubby by keeping a pleasant tone in her voice, a happy smile on her face and a neat and clean appearance.

Always speak in a loving way and refrain from speaking in a harsh manner. Treat husband with respect in front of others and at home.

Good Communication helps to build trust and strengthen relationship. Communication is the key to a good and solid married life. Be a good listener when husband is talking. Don’t greet him with complaints and problems the moment he comes back from work.

Support your husband in all stages of his career and life. Do not belittle husband or hurt his ego. It is often heard saying that ‘a wife can make a man or break a man’. Be proud of him on his accomplishments and genuinely complement him.

Many wives think that the only way to get her husband to do things is by nagging. But the truth is that nagging can create unwanted rift or can make things worse between the two. Never do nagging

A good wife need to understand that her husband has a life other than her also. He has his family, friends and colleagues who too are part of his life. Don’t stop him if he wants to go out and hang out with his friends sometimes or engage in a hobby or sport that he likes.

Sexual intimacy is one of the most essential things in married life. Keep him happy.

Men likes praises and appreciation. Make the best of your time together. Express love and appreciation often to him.
Be honest, loyal and dedicated to him.

The Joy of a Good Wife

1 Happy is the husband of a good wife;
    the number of his days will be doubled.

A loyal wife brings joy to her husband,
    and he will complete his years in peace.

A good wife is a great blessing;
    she will be granted among the blessings of the man who fears the Lord.

Whether rich or poor, his heart is content,
    and at all times his face is cheerful. (Sirach 26:1 to 4)

The Blessing of a Good Wife

13 A wife’s charm delights her husband,
    and her skill puts flesh on his bones.

14 A silent wife is a gift from the Lord,
    and nothing is so precious as her self-discipline.

15 A modest wife adds charm to charm,
    and no scales can weigh the value of her chastity.

16 Like the sun rising in the heights of the Lord,
    so is the beauty of a good wife in her well-ordered home.

17 Like the shining lamp on the holy lampstand,
    so is a beautiful face on a stately figure.

18 Like golden pillars on silver bases,
    so are shapely legs and steadfast feet. (Sirach 26:13 to 18)

If  wife want her husband to treat her like a queen, he should treat him like a king. In this modern world where most wives also work the above mentioned may not be fully practical. But at least some efforts can be put to put these tips into practice and try to be a Joyful wife and a blessed wife.

The Evil of a Wicked Woman

Holy Bible

Some women get married and then don’t do their duties as a mother and a wife. While the husband is at work paying the bills, the wife gets into mischief. That wife is a dead weight in her husband’s life. She drags him down. The way of a wicked woman is to divorce the husband of her youth. The way of a wicked woman is to divorce and then shack-up, living in adultery after quitting her marriage.

16 I would rather live with a lion and a dragon
    than live with an evil woman.

17 A woman’s wickedness changes her appearance,
    and darkens her face like that of a bear.

18 Her husband sits among the neighbors,
    and he cannot help sighing bitterly.

19 Any iniquity is small compared to a woman’s iniquity;
    may a sinner’s lot befall her!

20 A sandy ascent for the feet of the aged—
    such is a garrulous wife to a quiet husband.

21 Do not be ensnared by a woman’s beauty,
    and do not desire a woman for her possessions.

22 There is wrath and impudence and great disgrace
    when a wife supports her husband.

23 Dejected mind, gloomy face,
    and wounded heart come from an evil wife.
Drooping hands and weak knees
    come from the wife who does not make her husband happy.

24 From a woman sin had its beginning,
    and because of her we all die.

25 Allow no outlet to water,
    and no boldness of speech to an evil wife.

26 If she does not go as you direct,
    separate her from yourself. (Sirach 25:16 to 26)

Please don’t follow the way of a wicked woman!

Discipline of the Tongue – Foul Language

Holy Bible

For the Christian, the use of the tongue must be a matter of careful forethought and discipline. The Bible warns that believers who do not bring restraint to their tongue and speech have been deceived — and without such control over their words, their religious acts are worthless and hypocritical.

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless” (James 1:26).

The true test of a man’s spirituality is not his ability to speak, but rather his ability to bridle his tongue!

The tongue, though it is cursed by sin, is not inherently evil. It can be used to glorify God and build people up, or it can be used to curse God and tear people apart.

Discipline of the Tongue

  7 Listen, my children, to instruction concerning the mouth;
the one who observes it will never be caught.

8 Sinners are overtaken through their lips;
by them the reviler and the arrogant are tripped up.

9 Do not accustom your mouth to oaths,
nor habitually utter the name of the Holy One;

10 for as a servant who is constantly under scrutiny
will not lack bruises,
so also the person who always swears and utters the Name
will never be cleansed from sin.

11 The one who swears many oaths is full of iniquity,
and the scourge will not leave his house.
If he swears in error, his sin remains on him,
and if he disregards it, he sins doubly;
if he swears a false oath, he will not be justified,
for his house will be filled with calamities. (Sirach 23:7 to 11)

Foul Language

12 There is a manner of speaking comparable to death;
may it never be found in the inheritance of Jacob!
Such conduct will be far from the godly,
and they will not wallow in sins.

13 Do not accustom your mouth to coarse, foul language,
for it involves sinful speech.

14 Remember your father and mother
when you sit among the great,
or you may forget yourself in their presence,
and behave like a fool through bad habit;
then you will wish that you had never been born,
and you will curse the day of your birth.

15 Those who are accustomed to using abusive language
will never become disciplined as long as they live. (Sirach 23:12 to 15)
