Ettu Nombu Thirunal – 2017 – Day 3 – Kuravilangad Church

The land of Kuravilangad is blessed by the esteemed presence of St. Mary’s Forane Church, which was built in 105 A.D(just one hundred years before Constantine declared Christianity as the official religion in the Roman Empire). It is believed, Mother Mary’s first appearance in the world, was in Kuravilangad. Our Lady appeared to a few children at Kuravilangad, who were tending their flock in the bushes. Our Lady asked them to build a church at the place from where a miraculous perpetual spring sprouted, a spring which exists even today. The children reported the events to the elders and a church was built there.  Source : Kuravilangad Church

Technology vs God

God Vs TechnologyLife with modern technology is easier and comfortable. Everything becomes like Aladdin’s Lamb.

What might we conclude from the Bible’s treatment of technology? First of all let’s remember that God is the creator of the world and all that’s in it, including people who are made in God’s image. God created us in God’s image with creative ability, an ability that can be used to produce art, music, literature, and technology. God gave us the ability, brain and the materials necessary so that we can develop new technology for our benefit. We can say new technology is God-sponsored and all that God creates is good.

‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'” (Jeremiah 29:11)

God gave this new technology for the benefit of the people. But these days some people are misusing it for their pleasure, creating violence, giving damage to others and much more. Earlier days to get a news of our relatives who were staying far away from home, we had to rely on written letters which reach home in a week or month. But today, within seconds we can talk to them on mobile. We can make video calls on mobile or computer and see what is happening in thousands of miles away. The mobile applications we use on our smart phones or computers allow and encourage personal prayer and the study of scripture, or allow for religious observance across the confines of space, accessing holy sites that are otherwise difficult to reach. We can get medical advice of major diseases from expert Doctors of any country.

At the same time this technology is being misused by some people. Internet and social network has made lot of changes in the world in the field of communication and information. But some people misusing this technology for spreading violence, dirty videos and many other things which are not good for the people. Social network and internet chat with wrong persons some times lead to stress and damage to family life. These are only some of the examples, but the wrong impact is much more than imagination.

Pope Benedict XVI, who turned 84 on Saturday, April 17, 2011, wove his sermon around the theme of man’s relationship with God and how it can sometimes be threatened by technology.

“man will pay the price for his pride if he believes technology can give him the powers of God.”
“From the beginning men and women have been filled — and this is as true today as ever — with a desire to ‘be like God’, to attain the heights of God by their own powers,” he said, wearing resplendent red and gold vestments.

“Mankind has managed to accomplish so many things: we can fly! We can see, hear and speak to one another from the farthest ends of the earth. And yet the force of gravity which draws us down is powerful,”

The pope noted that advances in technology have bettered our life on earth in many ways, but that they have also increased possibilities for evil and chaos and that people need to “abandon the pride of wanting to become God,” if they wish to maintain a relationship with him.

Earlier people had enough and fixed time for family prayer on time daily, but these days prayer time is being changed according to TV program, and on some days there is no time left for the family prayer.

God wish that we use technology, don’t abuse it. Use technology, don’t be abused by it. Let us honor the God who created us with the ability to develop that which can take us farther away, and did so with enough faith, love, and confidence to know that we would be faithful to God. May we live up to those expectations and live into that truth.

Actually modern technology became our God. Let us look for our Almighty God, our creator. Not the man made God.

It seems like science and religion are at odds once again, what a shock!
